About

A permanent African institution.

Sankofa Africa Alliance exists to make one discipline durable across countries, partners, and generations — a discipline for recognising African capability and letting it thrive.

Mission

To recognise, connect, and compound African capability at scale — through a discipline of Reclaim, Reorganize, Multiply — so that the future of the continent is shaped by those who already carry it.

Vision

An Africa whose institutions, evidence, and knowledge systems are held and authored on the continent, and whose capability compounds across generations without requiring external permission.

Structure

The Alliance is governed by its Constitution and directed by its Canon. Its members — Stewards — carry the discipline into rooms and decisions where the institution itself is not present. Its programmes are practised through the Capability Domains; its knowledge is published through the Living Library; its digital layer is expressed as the Capability Infrastructure.

Long-term promise

To be recognisable, in fifty years, as the same institution — carrying the same discipline — even when none of the founders remain in the room.

The measure of an institution is not what its founders can do. It is what remains possible when the founders are no longer there.

The institutional record

A timeline kept honestly.

The record includes what has been done, what is under way, and what is intended — distinguished from one another, so the reader is never asked to mistake intention for achievement.

  1. Before the Alliance

    recorded

    A question asked repeatedly

Across programmes, ministries, and community institutions, the same observation recurred: capability was present and structurally unrecognised. The Alliance began as an attempt to make that observation into an institution.

  2. 2025

    recorded

    The Charter is written

Sankofa Africa Alliance: A Founding Document sets out the purpose, the founding question, and the commitment to permanence.

  3. 2025

    recorded

    The Constitution is adopted

The Constitution of Sankofa v1.0 fixes the Lens, the Method, stewardship, community authorship, and the ownership rule as governing obligations.

  4. 2026

    recorded

    The Canon opens

The Sankofa Method v1.0 is published as Canon Vol. II, and the Living Library begins to hold the institution's own readings.

  5. 2026

    in progress

    Capability Infrastructure begins

The public experience and the Commons are built as the first expression of Capability Infrastructure — modular, portable, and owned by the institution.

  6. The long horizon

    intended

    The measure of the work

That the discipline is recognisable in fifty years, carried by institutions and communities for whom Sankofa's presence is no longer necessary.
